Tour Overview & Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival   

Meet & Greet upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport (Need flights details??), drive on the slope of Mt Meru for dinner and overnight stay at African View lodge. www.african-view.com

Day 2: Miriakamba        

We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 am and transfer from Arusha to the Momella Gate to begin  your climb to Miriakamba Hut (2,600 M). This is a gentle 3- hour ascent.  On the way you pass through a woodland area where you may see large animals such as giraffe.  You will eat dinner and overnight at Miriakamba.

Day 3: Saddle   

You will have a 3- hour climb to Saddle Hut at 3,600 M, passing through a forest where you may  see black and white Colobus monkeys. At about 3,000 M you will enter a moorland area.  You may even be able to see Kilimanjaro from here.  It is possible to climb Little Meru (3,900 M) if you are up to it. You will eat dinner and overnight  Saddle Hut.

Day 4: Summit 

You will rise very early – after midnight to begin the 4 to 5 hour ascent to the top (4,566 M) where you will enjoy the sunrise followed by a walk back to Miriakamba hut where you will overnight once more.  You have time to explore the area a bit today or tomorrow morning.

Day 5: Descend

This morning you will have a leisurely descent to the gate, followed by lunch and a short game-drive in adjacent Arusha National Park before returning to African View lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Airport Transfer & Departure      

After breakfast, we will pick you up from the lodge and transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport to arrive in time for your homebound flight or other destinations.

Additional information

You should have a torch-a headlamp type is best, extra batteries, warm waterproof pants and jacket, warm clothes to layer, hat that covers your ears or even your face, gloves, warm socks and good climbing boots. Walking sticks are used by most, especially for the descent.
Be sure to bring lip balm and sunscreen and sunglasses or goggles. The glare for the snow and ice can cause serious sunburn.

You should only carry a day- pack with your camera, valuables, water, sunscreen, etc. In budget climbs, 10 kg of personal gear to be carried by porters is the allowed norm. (You need to combine your personal gear for porters to carry into one rucksack between you not exceeding 15-18kg weight) If you wish to bring more additional porters are needed, you will be charged for the extra expense.

Rental of gear or clothing: $5-10 per item per day. Please specify sizes.

TIPPING
Guides: $20 per day OR a group amount.
Cook: $15 per day, usually receives a bit more.
Porters: $10 per porter per day OR a group amount
(Tips is according to your budget & satisfaction). Can give more as you wish.

ADDITIONAL TRANSFERS BACK TO THE HOTEL FOR ANYONE DESCENDING EARLY IS NOT INCLUDED NOR IS EXTRA DELIVERY OF BAGGAGE ARRIVING LATE BEING BROUGHT TO MOUNTAIN AFTER THE CLIMB HAS COMMENCED.

  • Services all camping equipment. (tents/mattresses/pillows/chairs/cooking utensils/sleeping bag etc).

  • 2 nights Accommodation in Moshi (i.e. bed and breakfast)
